Kyiv

Eastern Europe has always fascinated me. Not only by the cultural differences that we might initially perceive or know but also by the architectonical and political “events” that these countries have encountered over the years.

In August 2021, I had the possibility of travelling to one of the most iconic Soviet countries that the east has to offer, Ukraine. As some locals describe it, the “test” city for Stalin’s Soviet plans, I quickly became attracted by that historical search of identity, how those soviet ideals have passed onto younger generations and how the city has evolved culturally and architectonically.

From “hard right-winged young teenagers” to the poverty that history has carried with it, I feel like Kyiv was the perfect starting point for me to get a more in depth knowledge of what defines them.

With this series of pictures I wanted to create a visually led experience that represents how it feels to live nowadays in such iconic Eastern European city through capturing its people and it stunning scenery.
